For all parents and families!
Some people think in "Black and White". Some people in an age of environmental concern are thinking "green". We are now starting to thing "Orange" at Second Avenue! A whole new wave of family ministry will be happening in our church and we want you to be a part of it. We found the "orange" concept by chilcren's ministry pastor Reggie Joiner to be a perfect fit with our vision of transformation. The red part of the equation is the family, the heart. The yellow represents the church, the light. Combined, "thinking orange" will have an increadible impact on our kids and families now and will leave a lasting legacy for the future. We truly believe that parents are the primary spiritual leaders of the family and we want to equip you to do so! Join us on Sunday August 29th immediately following the 10:45 service. There will be lunch for the whole family and then kids will proceed to the gym for fun and games while parents have time to explore what "thinking orange" will look like for us as a church community! We look forward to sharing with you on the 29th!
August 29, 2010- Special Neighborhood Worship with Holy Communion at 8:30am (please not the time change from last year) in the Second Ave. UMC lower parking lot combined with Bethany Lutheran. Celebrating our neighborhood ministries and our shared foundation in Christ Jesus our savior and Lord! Pastor Matt will preach and Pastor Paula will preside. Rain location will be Bethany's sanctuary.
Everyday Transformation!
Monthly service opportunities at 2nd Avenue:
Our world is filled with need, so where do we start? The hop is that as a church family we can come together to meet some of the deepest needs in our community and world. Each month we will be seeking to help meet one of those needs by bringing together simple, everyday items to reach out to others. For SEPTEMBER we will be focusing on DUFFEL BAGS! Every day kids are taken form their homes and placed into foster car with little more than the clothes on thier backs. What few items they take into care are usually thrown into black trash bags. We hope to give a sense of dignity and love to these children by providing duffel bags when they have to make this difficult transition. They can be placed on the stage in the elevation room (look for the huge bulletin board with "Nerve to Serve: Everyday Transformation!") At the end of the month all of the duffel bags will be given to Arrow Child and Family Ministries, a foster car and adoption agency our of Hollidaysburg. Duiffel bags can be new of gently used (but clean). jWatch as a simple everyday object transforms into a life giving ministry! Any questions, please see Jen Harry.
